A Doctor’s Perspective on Life and Fitness

Author: Dr Sushma Pachouri, B.H.M.S (INFS Alumni, Nutrition Consultant at S.Q.U.A.T.S )

I started my private practice in the year 2000 and it has been almost 18 years since I have been practicing homeopathy in the city Raipur. I have also previously worked as an assistant professor in Raipur Homeopathy Medical College. I left this job after joining SQUATS as a nutrition consultant.

Looking back I realise how easily we transition in life from one role to another. From spunky school girls to feisty career women to rocking mums, our journey is nothing less than a rollercoaster ride. We can discuss recipes and world affairs with ease as we shell our peas. We bake, we burn, we laugh and we learn. A woman can put a smile on her face even when they think the whole world is against them.

My journey was also full of ups and downs but it made me stronger and stronger. Starting from a weight of 90kgs, I dropped it to 59kgs and lost lots of inches. I faced many medical issues like PCOS, iron deficiency anaemia and throughout my pregnancy I had retro placental bleeding. The doctors suggested that I should terminate the pregnancy as it was threat to me and for my child but I didn’t give up. I was determined and had full faith in my God. I followed clean eating during my pregnancy but still gained 38kgs of weight as I was on injectables (oestrogen and progesterone hormone to sustain my pregnancy). I went into a state of depression and had to leave my job and clinic. Looking at myself in the mirror was a torture because a 53kg girl changed into a 90kg ugly woman.

It is said that self motivation is the best motivation and one fine day I decided to work on myself. I joined a gym and lost 25 kgs in one year. Unfortunately my approach towards weight loss turned out to be wrong and I lost 6kgs of muscle too in that process. This made me weak and lethargic and I never felt energetic. But then again a major change happened in my life and it was because of SQUATS. I came to know about this group and joined it as a silent follower. SQUATS helped me transform myself again and created an eagerness to transform others.

I wanted to understand the principles so that I could apply them properly to my clients. I decided to take up the INFS course and started my journey to become a nutrition consultant. I opted for both foundation and expert course and started my studies. The course was simple, easy to understand and follow. All my faculties at INFS were very supporting and helping. I completed my course and passed both the exams and one fine day got an email regarding my interview. Eventually I cleared the interview and was on boarded on Feb 1, 2017. It turned out to be the happiest day of my life. I have completed a tenure of 1 year with SQUATS as a mentor. I am loved, respected and praised by so many people. More than that my work gives me the job satisfaction we all crave.

INFS gave me the tools to effectively implement the nutrition and training strategies in help my clients. I love to teach and learn new things and looking forward to the new courses they will come out with this year. I will recommend my doctor colleagues and all students to complete their health education with INFS. Learning should be an on going process for all, we are never really done 🙂
